Over in the United States, the Niro isn't a high-volume crossover. In the first half of 2023, the small utility vehicle sold 19,325 units in this part of the world, up from 17,666 units in the first half of 2022.
By comparison, the South Korean marque's best-selling vehicle in the US market is the Sportage. A grand total of 96,022 examples were delivered between January 2023 and August 2023. The Forte ranked in a close second thanks to 84,398 deliveries, and the Telluride totaled 74,834 during this period.

Given these circumstances, are you surprised that Kia couldn't make a case for any model year improvement for the Niro Plug-In Hybrid? This fellow is now available to configure at $34,290 (excluding the $1,325 destination charge), representing an uptick of $550 over the 2023 model.

Rather than getting anything extra for those additional $550, the Niro Plug-In Hybrid actually drops a color from the exterior paint color palette. As it happens, Kia discontinued Fire Orange Metallic.

Advertised with an EPA-estimated electric driving range of 33 miles (53 kilometers) and 17 standard driver assistance features, the 2024 Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid comes in two distinct grades. The well-equipped EX opens the list with highlights that include automatic rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air conditioning vents, SynTex for the steering wheel rim, 16-inch alloy wheels, black roof rails, and 180 horsepower.

The plug-in hybrid setup is built around a 1.6-liter engine of the naturally-aspirated variety. The Smartstream G1.6 GDI is connected to a dual-clutch transmission rather than a continuously variable transmission, which makes the Niro Plug-In Hybrid that much nicer to drive than its main competitors.

Don't even dare think it's a sporty crossover, though. Efficiency is the name of the game here, with the EPA rating the Niro Plug-In Hybrid at 48 miles per gallon (4.9 liters per 100 kilometers) combined.

The only notable option worthy of your consideration for the Niro Plug-In Hybrid EX is the Cold Weather Package. For 600 of your hard-earned bucks, said package adds a heated steering wheel, heated outboard rear seats, and a PTC (positive temperature coefficient) heater rated at 5.5 kilowatt hours.

This package is available in the SX Touring as well, although it costs $500 because the SX Touring comes standard with a heated steering wheel. Other highlights include 18-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, a smart power tailgate, LED projector-style headlights and fog lights, and LED lighting for the interior.

Both the EX and SX Touring come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in satellite navigation, a 4.3-inch display for the instrument cluster, SiriusXM satellite radio, remote start, Kia Connect, four USB-A ports and four USB-C ports, and a wireless phone charger. Last but certainly not least, the SX Touring builds on the EX's six-speaker audio system with a seven-speaker premium audio system from Harman Kardon.
