Once again with a feeling, the Ioniq 5 has reaffirmed its Top Safety Pick+ status. To qualify for the highest award possible from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a vehicle must earn good ratings in four crashworthiness tests. Furthermore, said vehicle needs to feature a front crash prevention system (think automatic emergency braking) that earns advanced or superior ratings in the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
The final criteria comes in the form of headlight performance, and this is where Hyundai could make an improvement. More specifically, the standard lights (of the SE and SEL trims) were deemed acceptable rather than good.

The low beams offer inadequate visibility on the gradual left curve and create some glare, whereas the high beams offer deficient visibility on the sharp right curve. Based in Virginia, the nonprofit organization rated the seat belt reminders marginal due to the low volume of the audible alert.

The safety boffins at the IIHS further determined the LATCH system’s lower anchors to be located too deep in the seat, which makes fitting a child seat that bit more inconvenient than it’s supposed to be. Twinned with the Ioniq 6, the crossover-bodied Ioniq 5 isn’t all that different for 2024 compared to the 2023 model.

Over in the United States market, the biggest changes are the digital rearview mirror (for the Limited trim) and Wi-Fi hotspot (standard). When it comes to safety, updates include rear side airbags and rear outboard seat belt pretensioners and load limiters (also standard).

Scheduled to arrive in dealer showrooms in early 2024, the Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Edition is the most eye-catching version available for the 2024 model year. Finished in Gravity Gold Matte for the exterior, the special edition further sweetens the deal with plenty of Disney branding, snazzy wheels, and Disney-themed touches for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster.

Sold as a 2024 model in the rest of the world, the Ioniq 5 N performance crossover is listed by Hyundai USA as being a 2025 model. The dual-motor performance version is the only Ioniq 5 of them all to boast a rear wiper. Said wiper is expected to trickle down to the rest of the lineup for the 2025 model year refresh, which is currently testing in Europe and South Korea under heavy camouflage.

For the time being, US customers are presented with a choice of four grades. In addition to the aforementioned Disney100 Platinum Edition, the Ioniq 5 can be had in SE Standard Range, SE, SEL, and Limited flavors. The SE Standard Range is rear-drive only, whereas all other trims can be had with dual motors to the detriment of range.

Hyundai lists 303 miles (488 kilometers) as being the maximum EPA-rated range of the Ioniq 5 for 2024. Opting for all-wheel drive sees the Environmental Protection Agency’s estimate drop to 260 miles (418 kilometers).
