With 2024 Ford Mustang deliveries on track for late summer 2023 in the United States market, Dearborn's favorite son has also uploaded the pre-delivery inspection sheet on the OASIS platform. OASIS as in On-line Automotive Service Information System, a platform that includes owner information, service history, recalls, as well as technical service bulletins.
Coming courtesy of a Mustang7G forum member, the checklist begins with mechanical inspections. Think battery voltage, tire pressure, windshield washer fluid, coolant level, checking for underhood and underbody leaks, removing the plastic covers attached to the brake rotors and calipers, removing the spacers from the front springs (Dark Horse only), and removing the spacer blocks from the rear shock rods (Dark Horse only).

Next up, the dealership is required to install loose ship items, starting with the radio antenna mast. Exclusive to the Dark Horse and better-equipped Dark Horse Premium, dealers have to install front splitter and wheel lip moldings. The checklist also reads that the Dark Horse's oil catch can and Gurney flap are installed by the owner instead of the dealer.

Dark Horse vehicles, as well as GTs equipped with the Performance Package, come with underbody strakes. There is no mention of these strakes on Ford's configurator, which lists the Performance Package at $4,995 on top of the GT's starting price of $42,495.

Dealers are further instructed to keep the car in Transport Mode until customer delivery. The pre-delivery inspection further includes checking the instrument cluster gauges for proper operation, resetting the oil minder, checking all safety belts and latches, checking the power windows, and – if equipped - relocating the engine block heater cord.

The next step is a road test during which the service technician checks for squeaks and rattles, the drivability, transmission performance, and all that jazz. The penultimate step is all about appearance, with the dealership being required to remove the interior and exterior covers before washing and inspecting the vehicle for paint defects. Owner publications – including the owner's guide and keyless entry code – have to be placed in the car. Last but not least, the dealer will turn off Transport Mode upon delivery.

More of an evolution rather than a revolution, the S650 is pretty similar to the S550 under the skin. Even the Dark Horse is a Mach 1 in all but name, but still, there are major differences in regard to the oily bits. The EcoBoost now uses the Modular Power Cylinder engine architecture, which brings 5 more horsepower to the table while retaining the 350 pound-feet (475 Nm) of torque of the previous-generation EcoBoost.

Ford calls the 5.0-liter Coyote in the 2024 Mustang the Gen IV. Still a naturally-aspirated V8 with double overhead cams, this lump sports a 4-into-1 exhaust manifold, a steel oil pan, revised wiring and fuel line routing, dual intakes, and dual throttle bodies. The Dark Horse-specific Coyote develops 500 horsepower as opposed to 486 or 480 for the GT with the help of connecting rods from the Shelby GT500's engine.
