The seventh-generation Mustang has been hit with a safety recall concerning 362 examples of the breed, all of them equipped with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost and Ford's 10-speed automatic transmission. As per documents published on the NHTSA's website, said ponies were produced with a low-pressure fuel supply line that may be damaged or cut, which increases the risk of a fire.
The line in question was produced in Mexico by Cooper-Standard Automotive, and the part number bears part number PR3C-9J280-AF. Regarding the affected vehicles, the Ford Motor Company assembled them ponies between February 2, 2024 and February 9, 2024. A repair technician at Flat Rock Assembly Plant identified a cut fuel supply line on a freshly built 'Stang on February 7, 2024.

The car experienced engine stalling, and production line operators reported a fuel smell prior to the repair technician identifying the cut fuel supply line. After inspecting the fuel supply line stock at FRAP, workers identified two additional compromised lines. EcoBoost-powered Mustangs produced with suspect lines were held at the plant and reworked prior to shipping at dealers nationwide. Thankfully, Ford isn't aware of any field reports or customer complaints related to the aforementioned problem.

The cut or damaged fuel supply lines were attributed to a single operator at Cooper-Standard Automotive, who botched a manual rework process to improve the finish of the outer sleeve with a handheld cutting tool. Surface damage on the outer sleeve is why suspect lines are prone to leaking.

Dealers have already been instructed to replace the original lines with properly manufactured ones at no charge to the owners. Notification letters will be mailed in the period from April 15 to April 19.

Ford hasn't provided a list of VINs, but fret not because the automaker and the federal watchdog can help you determine whether your 2024 model year Ford Mustang EcoBoost is affected or not by running the 17-character VIN on their safety recall portals. In both cases, the service is 100% free.

Not available in Europe, the Mustang EcoBoost can be had in Fastback ($30,920) and Convertible ($39,020) flavors. The destination charge is $1,595 at press time. Customers in the market for the better-equipped Mustang EcoBoost Premium have to shell out at least $36,445 or $41,945, respectively.

The Mustang-specific EcoBoost develops 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet ( Nm) of torque at full chatter. It combines direct and port injection, and its 10-speed tranny can be had with either a 3.15:1 limited-slip rear axle or a Torsen axle with a final drive of 3.55:1 for the Performance Package.

Available with 18- and 19-inch wheels, the Mustang EcoBoost is – obviously enough – the most efficient of the bunch. It averages 26 miles per gallon (9.0 liters per 100 kilometers) according to the EPA, which further lists 24 mpg (9.8 l/100 km) for the Performance Package-equipped Mustang EcoBoost.
