Last year, General Motors listed the Chevrolet Colorado with a starting price of $29,200 before the $1,495 destination charge for the work-oriented WT for a final price of $30,695. Fast forward to January 2024, and the 2024 model year Colorado now starts at $31,095 including a slightly higher delivery fee.
The online configurator also reveals that General Motors hiked up the destination charge by $100 to $1,595 for the 2024 model year. WT and LT customers who want the range-topping engine, which the Detroit-based automaker refers to as TurboMax, have to shell out an extra $1,050. Said engine is standard in the Trail Boss, more capable Z71, and the no-nonsense ZR2.

Four-wheel-drive pricing kicks off at $34,395 for the WT. At the other end of the spectrum, the ZR2 Bison costs in excess of $60,000 before other extras. Part of the reason is the ZR2's already high sticker price of $48,395 at press time, whereas the so-called ZR2 Bison Edition package adds $11,700 to the MSRP.

Oh, and by the way, the Bison package automatically means that you have to pony up $445 more for the Safety Package. It's money well spent, though, because it adds Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, and Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering. Can someone explain why does GM force customers to get these things when the Bison package is all about off-road capability rather than safety?

Criticism aside, GM is doing it right in the mid-size truck segment. Colorado and GMC Canyon sales topped 71,081 deliveries in the United States of America in 2023, therefore placing General Motors between segment leader Toyota and third-ranked Nissan. The Tacoma clocked a whopping 234,768 units in 2023, with the Frontier boasting 58,185.

Similar to the Ford Motor Company's poor-selling Ranger, the Colorado and Canyon feature a four-cylinder turbo. The only exception is the Ranger Raptor, which features the Bronco Raptor's 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost I4 in regular versions of the Ranger is down on power and torque compared to the 2.7 in the Colorado, with Ford promising 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet.

That's 420 Nm in the metric system. General Motors can squeeze out as much as 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet (583 Nm), but alas, the standard tune makes do with 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet (353 Nm). Looking at the bigger picture, it's better than the old naturally aspirated I4's 200 ponies and 191 pound-feet (259 Nm) at 4,400 revolutions.

Shared with the half-ton Silverado and Sierra, as well as the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT4-V, the four-cylinder turbo in the 2023 and newer Colorado and Canyon is dubbed L3B. The order guide lists the base tune under production order code L2R because it features several hardware changes over the L3B.

Page number 333 of the owner's manual, which is attached below, reads 6.0 quarts or 5.7 liters of engine oil (including the filter). GM recommends 5W-30 oil, but in case of extremely cold weather, 0W-30 is also compatible with the L3B and lower-powered L2R.
