Replacing the F87, the G87 rolled out for the 2023 model year as the more compact sibling of the M4. The M2 has recently entered the 2024 model year, and with it, BMW has understandably increased the starting price as well.
The small coupe now starts at $63,200 (not including the $995 destination freight charge), which makes it $1,000 costlier than before. Do you get anything in return for this uptick? The answer is no, and that's perfectly fine.

Considerably more affordable than the M4, the M2 is available in a grand total of seven exterior colors. The online configurator lists five of them. Alpine White and Zandvoort Blue are no-cost finishes. For a meager $650, you can get the pictured Toronto Red Metallic, Black Sapphire Metallic, or Brooklyn Gray Metallic. Search for the pricing guide of the 2024 model year M2, and you'll also find Frozen Pure Gray Metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue II Metallic listed at $2,350. Both of them will become available in November 2023, as per said guide.

In production since August 2023, the 2024 model boasts a handful of expensive optional extras. In addition to the aforementioned colors, $2,500 gets you the M Driver's Package, whereas $9,900 buys you the Carbon Package.

What do said packages include, though? Listed with late 2023 availability, the Carbon Package comes with Jet Black or bi-color Style 930M alloy wheels, a carbon roof, carbon trim for the interior, and the M Driver's Package. The latter package sweetens the deal with a higher top end and a driving class at a BMW Performance Center.

How big of a difference in top speed are we dealing with? As standard, the G87 is limited to 155 miles per hour (make that 250 kilometers per hour in metric). The M Driver's Package increases it to 177 miles per hour, which converts to 285 kilometers per hour. The carbon roof is available as a standalone option as well, priced at $2,600. In terms of convenience, the Parking Assistant adds $200 to the tally. A wireless charger for your mobile device is $200, whereas a 5G eSIM costs a cool $300.

As opposed to the Old Continent, where the six-speed manual is an optional extra over the eight-speed automatic, the US-spec M2 can be had with either transmission at no additional cost. If you want to have fun, the sixer is the one to go for. But if you intend to daily your car, the torque-converter automatic is the better choice.

Another advantage of the ZF 8HP is that it shifts quicker than the manual. You'll need a little over 4.0 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) with the three-pedal transmission, whereas the ZF 8HP cuts the zero-60 estimate to merely 3.9 seconds.
