For years, Japanese carmaker Nissan has been trying to become a major player in the massively-sized American pickup truck segment. There are two main weapons it uses in this war, the Frontier and Titan, but both are easy prey for the local giants. And higher prices never help improve the status of the two.
This week, Nissan announced the changes it prepared for the 2020 model year of the Frontier. Major in essence, these changes bring with them a noticeable price increase, of about $2,000 on average.

The changes are meant to pave the way for the arrival of the new generation of the model. And there are some numbers behind the new truck that could make it a more valuable asset for American buyers in the near future.

Arriving at dealerships in July 2020 with a MSRP of $26,790 for the King Cab 4x2 S model, the revised Frontier provides according to Nissan the most power in its class: 310 horsepower (49 hp more than the current engine has to offer) coming from the brand new 3.8-liter direct injection V6 engine, linked to a new 9-speed automatic transmission.

The pickup will be available in King Cab, Crew Cab Short Wheelbase and Crew Cab Long Wheelbase body styles and either 4x2 and 4x4 drive configurations. The new range drops several of the current elements offered: the Desert Runner trim, SL trim, manual transmission and I-4 engine will no longer be part of the revised line.

The Frontier gets a number of other enhancements and extra standard features, including push button start, leather shift knob, manual tilt steering, power door locks and power windows with driver side auto-down.

The increased price of the pickup is justified by both the above changes, but also the inclusion as standard of two packages for the Crew Cab SV that were until now optional: Midnight and Special Edition package.

The most expensive new Frontier is the PRO-4X Crew Cab 4x4, which would retail from $37,490. Full details and pricing for all the new Frontier models can be found in the press release section attached below.
