With nearly 150,000 units sold each year since 2014, Kia’s freak of nature Soul model is getting ready for a major refresh next year. The new Soul, already spied several times on roads across the world, has been confirmed to be making its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of the month.
The 2020 Soul will be the second generation of the model introduced for the first time back in 2008 as a hatchback like no other. It will also be the most advanced of them all in terms of everything from design to technologies deployed in it.

With the announcement of the car’s debut Kia released one of the first official teaser images, showing the iconic straight-down lines at the back of the car. As far as the rest of it goes, the South Koreans promise “bold, immediately recognizable design,  uncompromising versatility, and a fun-to-drive personality.”

The new Soul will at first hit the roads in Europe next year, with the U.S. to follow shortly after. It will come with a comprehensive line of powertrain options, including a new interpretation of the electric drivetrain that debuted on the previous version and ICE-engines that will be offered including with turbocharged variants.

The electric version of the Soul is rumored to offer a range of 310 mile an extraordinary leap from the only 100 miles or so offered by the Soul EV currently on the market.

The increase in range is possible thanks to the use of a 60 kWh battery on the top of the range model. Those wanting to pay less for the car will also have the choice of a model with about half that capacity. The batteries will power electric motors that are rumored to be capable of developing around 20 horsepower.

The ICE offering will likely consist of a 2.0-liter engine and a 1.6-liter turbocharged.

WIth the bar now set high, all that's left to do is for the Los Angeles event to kick off and the car to be revealed.
