The moment when the second generation of the funky Kia Soul will be unveiled is fast approaching, and it’s obvious the South Koreans are just as eager to pull the wraps off their new model as we are.
For the past two weeks, Kia has been releasing images of the new Soul, showing bits and pieces of the iconic rear end, or the headlights and very slim grille.

On Wednesday, more of the Soul was revealed in a set of five photos released by the carmaker, that show part of the door from the interior, part of the steering wheel, the center infotainment display and a more complete look at the model’s silhouette.

With these new photos, Kia also released additional information about the model. First, there the addition of the “ruggedly styled X-Line“ trim to the offering, which will join the existing  LX, EX, S, and GT-Line.

Engine wise, the gasoline-powered Soul will come with either a normally aspirated 2.0-liter or a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired to a  7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

There will also be an electric version of the Soul, rumored to offer a range of 310 miles thanks to the use of a 60 kWh battery on the top of the range variant.

The car will officially be unveiled in full next week after the Los Angeles Auto Show opens its doors for the media. The new Soul will at first hit the roads in Europe next year, with the U.S. to follow shortly after.

Kia’s Soul gamble started in 2009 when the nameplate was first introduced. Surprising even the South Koreans, the car enjoyed an immense success a few years after the model hit the market, selling well over 100,000 units each year in the U.S since 2014

In Europe, the car is far less appealing, barely managing to reach the 15,000 units milestone since 2011. This is why Kia is rumored to be planning to sell only the electric variant on the Old Continent.
