Along with the new Focus ST hot hatch, Ford also launched a version nobody is talking about, the 2020 Focus ST Wagon or Turnier, as they like to call it. We gathered a few press photos and videos to start a discussion about its potential place in the wagon market.
From what we can tell, the ST wagon is only available as a diesel right now. And in this dark metallic grey color, it looks downright dull. Yes, it features a new face, but that's almost 100% the same as a Focus ST-Line, which is cheaper.
The 10mm lower suspension doesn't set them apart, but the stiffer shocks will. On the other hand, the 2.0-liter diesel engine only offers two small exhaust pipes on the right of the bumper and misses out on the rev-matching feature available with the more powerful 2.3-liter turbo petrol. Right now, you can only get that on the hatch, though.
The interior is much better than the old Focus model, but if that's all you're after, just go for the non-ST model. You can have that with a lower-output diesel or the 182 horsepower 1.5 EcoBoost. Both are also available with auto gearboxes, which won't come to the ST range until later. Still, those Recaro bucket seats are a nice touch.
The new EcoBlue engine is rated at 190 HP and 400 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. We couldn't find any pricing info in mainland Europe, but over in the United Kingdom, this wagon+diesel combo will set you back £30,595 on-the-road. Looking for a direct rival, we naturally arrived at the Skoda Octavia vRS Combi, which starts at £29,240. Not only is that already cheaper, but you should also factor in the standard DSG gearbox offered by Skoda, worth another grand.
There's an age difference between the two. But based purely on looks, most people will still stand with the Focus.
