As far as the mid-cycle refresh of the X1 is concerned in the Oz, we’re talking about a matter of win some and lose some. The pricing for the entry-level trim drops to 44,500 dollars, 1,400 less than the 2019 model year. But at the other end of the spectrum, the X1 xDrive25i is 2,000 more expensive at 62,900 dollars in the Land Down Under.
It’s pretty uncommon for a premium brand to operate this change with a well-selling product, and this leads us to believe that BMW Group Australia wants a bigger piece of the crossover segment with the smallest member of the X family. Scheduled to arrive at dealerships in October 2019, the 2020 model year features a three-cylinder turbo as standard in the sDrive18i.

Front-wheel drive is also standard, and just to confuse the matter even further, pricing for the sDrive18d turbo diesel stays put at $49,900 in this part of the world. The Life Cycle Impulse includes a bigger kidney grille with lots of chrome, hexagonal LED headlamps which can be upgraded to a matrix adaptive lighting system, and L-shaped taillamps also relying on LEDs.

The interior has been modified a bit too, and the biggest news here is the 8.8- and 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment systems. The bigger one is standard in the sDrive20i and xDrive25i. Higher trim levels are also treated to satellite navigation and projecting door mirrors, and Apple CarPlay is standard across the range even though you’ll have to pay a subscription to use it.

Fuel economy favors the turbo diesel with 4.7 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers while the 25i is the thirstiest of the lot at 6.6 liters on the combined driving cycle. Sales of the X1 are down 25.6 percent so far this year, with BMW Group Australia selling 1,344 units through June 2019.

In this segment, the XC40 from Volvo leads the charts in the first half of the year with 1,519 sales so far. Prices for the Swedish interloper start at 44,990 dollars.
