After launching the 1 Series hatchback this week, BMW is now getting ready for the full reveal of its closest relative, the 2 Series Gran Coupe. These are the latest spyshots and show this promising small Bimmer with the M235i xDrive configuration and some bold camouflage.
Since prototype sightings are frequently discussed, BMW is just one of many automakers to make a bold statement with the wrap that's supposed to hide the car. Thus, the blue-grey camo is more like something you would see in the Gumball 3000 rally.

The car itself is more Worthersee lakeside meet than millionaire toy, which is not to say it's cheap. Based on what we've seen with the hatchback, this M235i will cost just over €45,000. For that, you get the most powerful 2-liter that BMW has put into mass production plus many M-badged improvements.

Unlike the old M235i
, which had an inline-6, this has the same setup as an Audi S3. But the turbocharged mill makes 306 HP and 450 Nm, 6 HP and 50 Nm more than the quattro rival. Does that mean it's faster? Probably not, but it's still an exciting product.

Looking at the new 1 Series right behind it, we can see many similarities. In fact, the headlights look the same, so the relation between the two is different from that of the Mercedes A-Class and CLA-Class, which can be easily set apart. Strip away the aggressive bumpers, big brakes, and stiff suspension and you basically have a front-drive compact sedan, something which BMW has never offered (in Europe... we know about the Chinese model).

That's why, at launch, we also expect to see a 140 horsepower 218i Gran Coupe with a 1.5-liter and the 190 horsepower 20d model that almost every BMW offers. Depending on your setup, a manual, 7-speed DCT or 8-speed auto will be fitted. AWD will help the more powerful models, while the PHEV will undoubtedly come with a rear-mounted e-motor.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
