We've seen plenty of spy material portraying the 2021 BMW 4 Series in Convertible trim and the time has finaly come to feast our eyes on the new 4 Series Coupe.
Prototypes of the 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe have been spotted while on a delivery truck, so we can take a good look at the test cars.
And even though the heavy camo on the testers gets in the way, there's one element that stands out, namely the roof line. Not only is the upper part of the fixed roof model's silhouette sportier than that of the convertible (this has returned to a canvas top, by the way), but it also makes the 4er look like a baby 8 Series.
Speaking of which, it might be possible for the 4 Series coup to offer rear passenger space comparable to that of its big brother, since the latter's rear cabin doesn't match the size of the Grand Tourer.
As is the case with most contemporary BMWs, the new 4 Series will be underpinned by the CLAR architecture. So despite a slight increase in overall size, the two-door should be a tad lighter than the car it replaces.
The engines will obviously be shared with those of the already-out 2019 3 Series, so we're talking about turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0L and 3.0L units. The provisional M Performance range-toppers will come in the form of the M440i and M440d.
Oh, and we must also mention the plug-in hybrid version(s) of the 4 Series, as well as the similarly-sized i4 all-electric model.
As for the M4, which will be offered in Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe form, this will be animated by the new S58 straight-six that debuted on the 2019 X3 M and X4 M. In "standard" trim, the unit delivers 480 hp, while the Competition badge brings the output to 510 ponies.
The BMW 4 Series Coupe should debut in Summer 2020 at the latest, while the Convertible could come at the same time.
