Remember the days when 500 horses powering a mid-size SUV felt insane? Those times are now behind us and we can now enjoy compact crossovers that pack an even greater punch. Since Jaguar has now introduced the F-Pace as its first high-riding model, the Brits simply couldn't miss the opportunity to deliver such a super-SUV and you are now looking at the thing, which should receive the F-Pace SVR badge.
We've spied the Leaping Cat's hot high-riding model on tons of occasions, with the SUV now being almost ready to show its face to the world. And what a front fascia the thing will have: Jaguar's SVO go-fast division is known for its visual aggression so that you can expect gaping intakes underneath that camo.
Since the F-Pace has quickly become Jaguar's best-seller, the high-performance version of the crossover was an obvious development. At the moment, the quickest F-Pace you can buy is animated by the British automaker's 380 hp supercharged 3.0-liter V6.
There will be quite a muscle gap between the six-pot model and the SVR, since we expect the latter to be animated by the automaker's faithfull blown 5.0-liter V8. The unit will deliver anywhere between 500 and 575 ponies, which will allow the Brit to tackle the extremely fierce competition.
We'll remind you that the segment has already welcomed the 510 hp Alfa Romeo Stelvio Q, which has recently set a record for the quickest production SUV on the Nurburgring. And yes, the Jag could threaten the Italian's 7:51.7 record lap time.
Then we have the Mercedes-AMG GCL63 S and GLC63 S Coupe, with their 510 hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8.
As for the Porsche Macan, the most powerful incarnation of the Zuffenhausen compact SUV is the 440 hp Turbo with the Performance Package. Nevertheless, the Macan facelift is approaching its debut, and we should see the German upping the ante on the go-fast front.
Given the advanced stage of the spied prototype, the 2018 Jaguar F-Pace SVR could make its debut in late November, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, while a January 2018 debut (think: Detroit Auto Show) is also possible.
