Only a couple of days ago, we caught the first glimpses of the all-new Renault Megane. The fourth generation hatchback will come out at the Frankfurt Motor Show, complete with sporty GT model.
However, the Renault Sport version not be ready for at least a couple of year, and rumor has it that the French are preparing something new.
The whole performance industry seems to be going green at the moment. Headlines were dominated last year by stories about the McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari, and Porsche 918 Spyder. All of them can use electricity to power themselves, so why should a hot hatch?
The rumor mill suggests a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine will be combined with hybrid tech to deliver more than 300 horsepower in the next Megane RS. That's an increase of at least 25 hp over the current model.
This next rendering of the 2017 Megane RS probably wasn't that tricky to pull off. All that X-Tomi Design had to do was to lower the suspension a bit, change the wheels and install a new front grille.
Of course, there is one major difference between what we see here and the RS models currently in Renault dealerships. You see, this image shows a 5-door hot Megane, something that hasn't existed for a while.
Due to slow demand, the company may decide to cut the 3-door body from the lineup, just like it did with the Clio. While the two extra doors will mean a lot to the practicality side of things, something has been lost in the looks department.
Like it or not, the future of the hot hatch market has some clear green leaves showing. One good example is the Golf GTE, but Peugeot are also working on the 308 HYbrid-R. That will have at least 400 horsepower and all-wheel drive.
