Opel’s facelifted Zafira has begun its production process at the Russelsheim facility.
The Zafira has been restyled to mark its mid-cycle refresh, and the car now comes with more technology than ever before. The seven-seat MPV is Opel’s latest creation that is part of a larger product offensive, which includes the launch of 29 new models from 2016 through 2020.
The 2017 Opel Zafira was unveiled this May, and its availability was announced for this summer. Most likely, the first cars will go to Opel dealers, but a few customers that have signed up for the car after its reveal will also get theirs as soon as possible.
Like its predecessors, the 2017 Zafira is based on the ongoing Opel Astra K. Opel has sold 2.7 million Zafiras to date, and this model is expected to increase that number further.
Opel markets this car to families and professionals looking for a versatile vehicle to travel long distances. The first Zafira was introduced in 1999, and it was based on the Opel Astra G, the current model Astra of that period.
Just like its predecessor, the 2017 Opel Zafira is available with AGR-Certified ergonomic front seats, and can be ordered with the FlexFix bicycle carrier, as well as the adaptive chassis Opel calls FlexRide.
Other new items include the IntelliLink multimedia unit, which features full connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as General Motors’ OnStar system. The latter is being introduced into the Opel and Vauxhall ranges as the models get refreshed.
The first production 2017 Opel Zafira to leave the Russelsheim facility is painted “Magma Red,” and features the OPC Line package. Its customer also requested the AFL LED technology, as well as the radar-based adaptive cruise control system.
The first production 2017 Zafira from Opel left the manufacturing line under the eyes of Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, the CEO of Opel, who was joined by Vice President of Manufacturing, Phil Kienle. Evidently, the manager of the Russelsheim plant, Michael Lewald, was also attending the great event for the facility.
