It’s been a long time since the fourth-generation Odyssey went on sale in the U.S. More specifically, the year was 2010. The 2017 Honda Odyssey is the last of its kind, though, because Honda plans to redesign its popular minivan for the 2018 model year.
Until that moment comes, the 2017 Odyssey will have to suffice. Now on sale at dealerships nationwide just in time for the holidays, the 8-seater minivan retails from $29,850 for the entry-level LX grade. The most expensive of the lot, which is called Touring Elite, will set buyers back at least $45,325. That’s a lot for such a tried-and-tested design, but hey, most people in the market for a roomy minivan don’t really care about looks.
A top choice for under-35-year-old buyers since 2010, Honda’s family hauler continues to be the most popular minivan in the United States, even in 2016. As ever, the sole engine available in the Odyssey is a naturally aspirated V6 with 248 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm. Paired with a 6-speed automatic, EPA-rated fuel economy stands at 19 mpg in the city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.
The 2017 MY sees the Odyssey add an optional acoustic windshield to the extremely popular SE and EX-L trim levels, plus available features that include Rear Entertainment System (RES), HondaVAC in-vehicle vacuum cleaner, Forward Collision Warning, and SiriusXM Radio. It’s not much, but then again, it’s plenty enough for an 8-seat vehicle that was designed with a single purpose in mind: to take the kids to school, then back home.
Produced by Honda Manufacturing in Lincoln, Alabama, the Odyssey also prides itself with a CARB ULEV-2 emissions certificate, extensive use of high-strength steel in the A-, B-, and C-pillars, a frame designed to offer lots of passenger protection in the the event of a frontal crash, plus a flurry of active safety features. The over-the-top 2017 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite can be equipped with luxed-up, captain-style chairs.
