The prototype in the adjacent spy photo gallery is a far cry visual-wise from the prom queen crowned in Detroit Motor City. Look at that glorious body with what looks like gray-painted composite materials wrapping the carbon fiber structure of the car. Then observe how there’s no chicken wire up front nor thumping great aerodynamic diffuser at the rear.
Whereas the wheels and Michelin rubber mirror the units fitted to the concept vehicle, the 2017 Ford GT test mule sports different side mirrors, botched up lights, joined by a work-in-progress exhaust system. In addition to these, the prototype appears to stand lower to the ground than the Detroit-bound concept.
While the active aerodynamics are not featured on this test mule, our photographers informed us of a distinctively six-cylinder exhaust noise from the 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. According to the rumor mill, pricing for the 2017 Ford GT will go as high as $400,000, while the Ford Motor Company plans to build it in short supply (250 units per year, we hear) to keep the nameplate as exclusive as possible.
Editor's note: some say that the 2017 Ford GT will churn out 700 horsepower or so.
