650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque. That’s how much get-up-and-go the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 packs according to a leaked order guide. In other words, 10 ponies and 10 lb-ft more than the golden bowtie had originally estimated.
When it made its first public outing, the all-new Camaro ZL1 was said to be “delivered with a new supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine estimated at 640 hp (477 kW).“ But that’s not the case anymore. Coming courtesy of the peeps at the Camaro6 forums, we now know that the Camaro ZL1 is on par with the supercar-like Corvette Z06 concerning what matters most: badassery.

Sure, it doesn’t have the same ridiculous output as the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, but does it really matter? Only 57 horsepower separate the Mopar yardstick and the GM contender. Regarding torque, they’re neck and neck. The arguably most significant difference between the Hellcat and ZL1, however, is weight. GM has yet to announce the weight of the all-new Camaro ZL1, but I’m sure it will have an advantage over the Mopar machine.

Bearing in mind the new kid on the block is lighter than its long-lived forerunner, the old Camaro ZL1 tipped the scales at 4,118 lbs (1,868 kg). By comparison, the Challenger SRT Hellcat is more heavy-footed at 4,469 lbs (2,027 kg). These being said, pricing for the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has yet to be announced. However, it shouldn’t surprise you if the manufacturer will price this bad boy and its supercharged small-block V8 tower-of-power at $65,000 or thereabout, which is Challenger SRT Hellcat territory.

From the leaked order guide for the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro lineup, we’ve learned that Chevy has something in store for too-protective parents. Ladies and gentlemen, cue Teen Drive, your teenage child's worst nightmare.

This is “a configurable feature that lets you activate customizable vehicle settings associated with a key fob, to encourage safe driving behavior. It can limit certain vehicle features, and it prevents certain safety systems from being turned off. An in-vehicle report gives you information on your teen's driving habits and helps you to continue to coach your new driver.”
