While us journalists are busy telling each other that the 5 Series is not impressive, many people are thinking about buying one already, because even if it has flaws, it's still the latest model, lighter and faster than before.
Through a forum post on Bimmer Post, the full UK price list for the UK market has been leaked. This is the stuff hundreds of dealers will send to thousands of customers in the coming months. But the bad news is that prices are going up.
To get into a G30 5 Series, customers will have to hand over at least £36,025. Meanwhile, the F10 sedan that's still on sale stickers for a slightly more reasonable £31,115. But the increase is mainly due to the shaping of the engine range, as cheap models like the 518d and 520i aren't available at the moment. Still, prices have gone up by around £700 on a model-by-model basis.
As you might have guessed, the entry-level model is the 520d in SE trim. It's powered by the same kind of engine as before, a 2-liter turbodiesel producing 190 PS. It can also be ordered with xDrive from now on, but the price goes up to £38,025.
The other diesel engine that will be available (probably in the first few months of 2017) is the 530d, producing 265 PS and 620 Nm of torque from its 3 liters of output. This one costs anywhere from £43,835 up to £49,295.
For 2017, the 528i will be replaced by the 530i. It packs 252 PS and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. Interestingly, the most powerful version of the 5er that will be available, the 540i, is being sold exclusively with xDrive for £46,645.
For an extra £3,000, buyers can option the M Sport package which includes 18-inch alloys, LED fog lights and a body kit. On the inside, it bundles up a new steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and illuminated door sills.
As we've come to expect from BMW, there's an endless list of expensive options. Just to give you an example of that, we're going to look at the clever remote control parking system, for which you'll have to order the Technology Package at £1,995 plus the £395 for the clever key. Really, a key that costs as much as a flagship phone?
