People tend to look at the Bentley Mulsanne, especially in the Speed incarnation, and see an ostentatious piece of machinery, passing the kind of judgement that tells one an Audi S8, a BMW 760Li, or, in extreme cases, a Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is enough.
Well, Crewe has just dialed things up a bit with the 2017 Mulsanne Speed it has introduced in Geneva and we couldn't be happier. That's because we've always seen the Mulsanne as the way in which "reasonable" works for the overly affluent clientele.

Seriously, this isn't a gold-plated machine or a one-off commissioned by some octane eccentric whose garage is buried under the dunes. So why not enjoy its latest evolution?

Speaking of reasonable, we'll start by mentioning the 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8 is untouched. This means Bentley engineers considered the 530 hp and 811 lb-ft (Nm) of torque enough. With a 0 to 60 mph sprint of 4.8 seconds and a 190 mph top speed, we tend to agree with them.

Nevertheless, the British automaker's penning specialists took notice of the opinion-splitter being built around the oddball front fascia of the Mulsanne.

This is why the entire line-up gets subtle, and yet effective styling touches. Chief among the visual changes is the front fascia work. First of all, the new headlight layout addresses the detail mentioned above.

Then there's the new grille. Wider and more imposing than before, this makes the most out of a not-so-complicated arrangement. It's been widened by three inches, with the effect being strong. The new taillights complete the scenery.

As for the cabin, the Speed comes with a tastefully restrained approach, as long as we consider its lavish materials as such an effort.

Nevertheless, those of you who want to stretch their legs even further, should head over to the EWB (long wheelbase in Flying B language) incarnation of the Bentley flagship.
