Last week we were reporting on the new prices for the 2016 Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat and how they were bound to go up. While our source was good enough to provide some rough estimates for how big the markup was going to be, it seems like we were rather off.
Thought that $2,500 more for the Challenger and $1,950 for the Charger was too much? Well, think again. The real figure is nearly twice as much. The 2016 Challenger SRT Hellcat will have a starting price of $65,190, $4,200 more than last year’s model while the 2016 Charger alternative will be $3,650 more, raising the tag to $68,640.
Yup, things are getting expensive, but Dodge claims that the customer also gets a lot more standard kit for these new prices. According to them, the new standard navigation, leather seats, and other bits and pieces will represent an add-on of $2,490 to the updated prices. Even so, there’s still a difference of $1,700 and $1,150 compared to the 2015 versions.
Considering the soaring demand for the two monsters, it’s not an entirely unexpected outcome. As a matter of fact, even with the new MSRPs, the duo is still hard to get a hold of, due to the ‘thirst’ of horsepower the market seemingly has.
To cope with it, Dodge ramped up the production, nearly doubling the projected output figures for the 2016 model year. The 707 HP-beasts will inevitably flood the streets of the US in no time and the above-mentioned price increase. As for the changes the two will present to their new customers, compared to the 2015 models, don’t expect big things.
Apart from the aforementioned added standard kit, nothing much is changed. You get the same mad supercharged V8 with the same crushing amount of power and torque, as well as some pretty near bragging rights. The only thing we recommend, though, is caution in lighting up those rear tires. There are simply too many reports of owners leaving dealership lots and crashing their brand new Hellcats with just a few miles on the clock.
