At long last, after months of rumors and Buick's Detroit Auto Show stand teaser, the General Motors-owned marque has finally revealed the 2+2 rag top in all its glory. The Cascada will be the first Buick convertible offered in the United States in 25 years.
When it will be offered? According to the manufacturer, "early 2016" is the answer to that question. The stylish rag top is the rebadged variant of the Opel / Vauxhall Cascada, basically a drop top Astra coupe, which went on sale in Europe 2 years ago.
Powered by a 1.6-liter EcoTec four-pot turbocharged engine with 200 horsepower and 206 lb-ft (280 Nm; 221 lb-ft / 300 Nm with the overboost feature) of front-wheel drive twist, the "2016 Buick Cascada is a beautiful, engaging convertible that represents the very best of the brand’s global development practices,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of the Buick brand.
Lane departure warning, rear park assist, rearview camera and Rainsense automatic windshield wipers are some of the highlight available features, along with telescopic arms that slide the upper front safety belt assemblies for easier buckling.
An IntelliLink infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen is a standard feature, which boasts with Text Message Alerts, Siri Eyes Free for Apple smartphones with an iOS 6 or newer operating system and navigation, joined by the already popular OnStar 4G LTE connectivity system with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.
For the 2016 Cascada, Buick’s signature wing-shape LED daytime running lights deliver a distinctive appearance, while the HiPer Strut front suspension and the Watts Z-link suspension in the rear are the name of the game on the handling front.
In addition to the aforementioned, a six-speed automatic transmission is standard, while the insulated soft top opens in 17 seconds at up to 31 mph (50 kilometers per hour).
