Following the debut of the MQB-based Superb sedan in February, Skoda has taken the wraps off the all-new 2015 Superb Combi as well.
It's set to be fully disclosed during this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in September when it will also go on sale. However, save for a few pricing-related details, we know all there is to know about the Skoda big-boy.
Looking precisely like you would expect, the Combi boats a substantial boot capacity, able to carry 660 liters of luggage, 27 more than the previous model. Once the seats are folded flat, available space predictably grows to 1,950 liters.
Riding on the MQB platform, the 2015 Superb Combi is both lighter and bigger at the same time. The wheelbase has been stretched by 80 mm to 2,841 mm while the seats are placed lower down, so both legroom and headroom are ample.
"The combination of esthetics, top-of-the-range technology, and the highest practical benefits makes the new Superb Combi an outstanding vehicle within its segment. With the new flagship, we will attract new customers to our brand,” said Dr. Frank Welsch, Skoda Board Member for Technical Development.
As far as the engines are concerned, they will all be carried over from the regular Superb saloon. Expect anything from a 120 PS 1.6-liter TDI diesel to a 280 PS 2-liter TSI to be available. The most efficient model will burn about 3.5 liters per 100 kilometers, while the most powerful will get to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds with the help of all-wheel drive.
European sales will commence in late September, right after the Superb Combi makes its Frankfurt debut. Skoda says over 200,000 examples have been sold so far since the launch of the original in 2009. In that period, it accounted for 35% of the total Superbs sold. However, we don't yet know if they are planning another Scout model.
