Unveiled earlier this month and publicly introduced at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2015 Lincoln MKC is supposed to help "fuel the brand's reinvention". As a luxury car, the MKC is in for a tough mission in the United States, with heavy competition from Detroit and German manufacturers.
But the Blue Oval company hopes the brand new MKC will attract buyers with its brand new Lincoln Experiences, which consists of a suite of customer-focused convenience features that aim to "enhance the buying and ownership experience". Among them there's the "Approach Detection", a class-exclusive feature through which the vehicle welcomes its owner as it approaches.

As Lincoln puts it, "Approach Detection senses an approaching owner from up to nearly 9 feet away and the vehicle responds by illuminating 3-foot by 1-foot 'welcome mats' on the ground next to both front doors". In addition, signature lighting in the headlamps activates, while the door-handle pockets glow with lighting tuned to the vehicle’s exterior color.

Lincoln is not the first automaker to offer such features, as Cadillac has something similar on the XTS and CTS. However, GM's luxury division doesn't have the "welcome mats". It's hard to predict whether or not the Approach Detection will make a difference among luxury car customers, but we're happy to see Lincoln adding cool stuff to their cars again.
