The 2014 Maserati Ghibli has reached North America thanks to the 2013 Los Angeles Motor Show, with the Italian carmaker also preparing for its centenary anniversary next year.
The Ghibli shares its platfom with Maserati’s flagship sedan, the Quattroporte and is offered with two output levels of a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. There’s an eight-speed automatic, which can send the power to either the rear or all four wheels.
The fastest version is the Ghibli S Q4, whose 404 HP at 5,500 rpm and 406 lb-ft of torque from 1,750 rpm needs 4.7 seconds for the 0 to 62 mph sprint, also offering it a 175 mph top speed. As for the RWD version, this takes 0.2s longer to reach 60 mph.
As for the base Ghibli, this offers 345 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque, playing the 0 ot 60 mph game in 5.5 seconds. The vehicle comes with a starting price of $65,600.
The Ghibli may be slotted under the Quattroporte, but this model means quite a lot to Maserati. Its positioning is a key point for the automotive producer’s plan to reach a 50,000 car per year production target, which has been set for 2015.
