Even though it debuted just three years ago at the posh Geneva Auto Show, the second-generation Kia Cee’d (JD) is getting ready for its mid-cycle refresh. The Korean outfit declared that IAA 2015 is the place of unveiling, but you don’t need to wait that much to see how the Kia Cee’d in facelift format looks like. First impression? Hubba hubba!
We’re living in wonderful times considering how many good-looking C-segment hatchbacks are available in Europe. The MQB-platformed SEAT Leon, 2015 Opel Astra K and Mazda3 are some of our favorites. The Cee’d facelift also has that je ne sais quois about it, though it’s not as neat as the perviously mentioned.
The peeps from Terranismo got their hands on the first photograph of the 2015 Kia Cee’d facelift and changes are not exactly dramatic. The snouty frond end is pretty much the same as ever, with changes operated to the design of the grille's mesh without modifying its overall shape or chrome surround.
While we find it hard to spot a single change with the headlights, the most telling modification is the completely redesigned lower front bumper. Compared to the no-frills bumper of yesteryear, the 2015 Kia Cee’d facelift gains a rather imposing front bumper, with updated fog lights and trapezoidal chrome trim for added visual drama. In a nutshell, the revamp is muscly without giving the impression of steroidization.
Our guess is that the featured C-apostrophe-D is a high-spec GT Line. This mid-cycle revamp will see the addition of a 1-liter T-GDI three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline mill, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch box.
Kia is adamant that the three-banger is good for 120 PS and 172 Nm (129 lb-ft) of torque between 1,500 and 4,100 rpm. The fast-shifting DCT transmission will be adopted by the rest of the four-pot engine lineup.
