People from the Land Down Under in the market for a performance-oriented large family car (D-segment), rejoice! The Holden Insignia VXR is going to arrive in Australia next month, all-wheel drive layout and turbocharged V6 motor included.
The first all-wheel drive-enhanced sedan in the Holden product portfolio comes after the brand launched the 2015 Holden Astra and Cascada. Compared to those two, the Insignia VXR sports sedan develops 239 kW (325 horsepower) and 435 Nm (320 lb-ft) of torque from a 2.8-liter force-fed V6 tower-of-power.

Part of Holden’s European product onslaught, the Insignia VXR is manufactured at the Russelsheim plant in Germany, which is the Opel brand’s main production facility. Peter Keley, Holden Australia’s executive director of sales, is pretty excited about the arrival of the mid-sized four-door family hauler.

“Performance and great to drive have always been part of Holden’s DNA. Add to this a German designed and engineered AWD performance sedan, loaded with equipment, and you have one very exciting vehicle. The Holden Insignia VXR is visually stunning with great road presence, exceptional build quality and breathtaking performance, all at an incredibly competitive price.”

There’s a little problem though - that “competitive price” isn’t available at the time of writing. Still, we reached a Holden dealer and found out that the price starts at AUD 51,990. That’s roughly 8 grand cheaper than the Opel Insignia OPC that was sold in the Oz from September 2012 to August 2013. A detail you also have to take into account is that the full-size, V8-powered Commodore SS-V Redline is AUD 52,490.

Main 2015 Holden Insignia VXR highlights include:

  • 2.8-liter V6 turbocharged engine with six-speed automatic transmission
