Remember the old school HJ Sandman Ute and Panel Van? What about the HX Sandman? As it happens, General Motors’ Aussie division will relaunch the iconic line of Sandman models on April 4th, with sales slated to start this June.
Underpinned by the VF Commodore, Holden will be letting the good times roll again with the 2015 Holden Sandman Ute and Sandman Sportwagon. More than 4 decades since the original debuted in 1974, the brand from the Land Down Under finally decided to reintroduce the Sandman in its lineup.

Based on the wagon and ute derivatives of the VF, the 2015 Holden Sandman Special Edition models are built upon the Commodore SV6 and the sporty SSV.

Just like the predecessors, the new kids on the block are cool-ified with 1970s orange shagpile boot floor rugs and seat covers (not joking), as well as surf livery on the hood, bootlid and the sides.

“The Holden Sandman has been synonymous with the great Australian surf safari for decades and perfectly reflects our country’s laid back, yet adventurous attitude to life. When the opportunity came to revive Sandman, we jumped at it,” declared Holden executive director of sales Peter Keley. “The reborn Sandman is a statement and reflection of the Australian way of life,” he added.

Well, who can argue with a 3.6-liter V6 or a 6-liter V8 lighting up the rear tires as being the Aussie way of life? Available in Heron White, Nitrate Silver or Phantom Black, the 2015 Holden Sandman Ute and Sportwagon special editions add a AUD2,950 (about $2,300) premium on SSV and SV6 models.
