Since it was introduced in April 2004, the Ford Territory crossover SUV has become a well known and fairly good selling nameplate in the Land Down Under. We knew for quite a while now that a new model is due to launch by November, but now we know how it will look like in production guise.
According to Mike Costello from CarAdvice, the two images have been sourced "from a reliable location" and "appear to be shots of the next Territory." In terms of styling, there's not much change between the facelift and the outgoing model, but there are a few visual differences worth mentioning.
First of all, the front fascia is adorned with a more modern radiator grille design and rectangular fog lights with C-shaped aluminum bezel surrounds. The pictures may be low resolution and pixelated, but we can't see any aesthetic difference between the 2014 model year and the upcoming Territory's headlight cluster design. Even the door mirror integrated turn signals and sculpted bonnet design appear to be aesthetically unchanged.
The rear isn't that different either, but a new alloy wheel design appears to be in the cards. As you might've guesses by now, a revamped blingy grille and Hyundai-like fog lights aren't really the ingredients that'll turn around the Territory's recent sales volume slump. The revised Falcon shapes up to be a better facelift overall, but its platform-sharing brother on stilts appears to be a big disappointment.
An upgraded six-speed automatic tranny is likely to be offered, together with improved aerodynamics for better fuel economy. As for the oily bits, RWD and AWD versions will be available, propelled by either a 2.7-liter V6 turbo diesel with at least 140 kW and 440 Nm on tap, as well as the Aussie-made Barra straight-six with a minimum 195 kW and 391 Nm. On the inside it's anybody's guess what to expect, but an updated infotainment system and new materials and color combinations may be in the cards.
