Rumor has it the redesigned 2015 Ford Mustang will be slightly smaller and several hundred pounds lighter than the current-generation pony.
Quoting “a source familiar with the Mustang program”, Edmunds reports that the all-new musclecar will be slightly smaller and at least 400 pounds (181 kg) lighter as Ford is looking for ways to improve the vehicle’s fuel economy.
“The overall length will be something like 8 percent (15 inches) shorter. The width will be a little less than 10 percent (6.5 inches) narrower (...) They are going to use more aluminum, better structural welds and so on and so forth, basically using less material and making it stronger,” the anonymous source told Edmunds.
"That car will be around for 8 to 10 years so it has to meet anticipated regulatory requirements for that long period of time," he added. Our guess is that the new four-potter and V6 versions should do better than the current V6, which returns 31 mpg highway when equipped with the six-speed automatic.
The 2015 Ford Mustang is expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.
