Dodge Viper owners aren’t the only car-crazed fanatics rolling into the Detroit area this weekend. For the fourth year in a row, a group of Ford Pinto owners have banded together for the “Pinto Stampede,” and this year’s journey takes them to the home of Ford Motor Company in conjunction with Ford’s annual Product Development Center Employee Car and Truck Show.
Following the PDC car show, the group will visit The Henry Ford and the Roush Collection before heading out tomorrow from Dearborn to Hell, MI – taking them on a road trip to Hell and back. Their weekend will conclude with the Ford and Mercury Restorers Car Club Show on Sunday.

Although the Ford Pinto is now infamous for its exploding fuel tank problem, which has actually been shown to be no more dangerous than other cars of that era, that hasn’t stopped people from becoming huge fans of the small car. Over its nine-year production run, close to 3.2 million Pintos were produced, and 50 of which will be on display today at Ford’s unique car show.

In addition to showing their love for all things Pinto, the Pinto Stampede has also helped raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. To date, the group has helped raise about $38,000 for their charity, and this year’s Stampede will feature a lever-action Henry rifle, which will be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to WWP.

Past Pinto Stampede events has included road trips from Mississippi to Memphis in 2013, cruising the back roads of Virginia and West Virginia in 2012 and a drive from Denver to Carlisle, PA for their inaugural trip in 2011.
