2014 MotoGP: Bad News for Lorenzo, Argentinian Circuit Infested with Mosquitos

Now, this is one thing you just don’t get too see too often: reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez using a vacuum cleaner and fighting the hordes of mosquitos which plague the complex of the new Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo in the Santiago del Estero region.

The new track is as close as 500 yards (450m) to the Lake Hondo, whose name (and now mosquitos) is also bears. This photo was posted on Twitter by @luca_bologna and shows Marc Marquez helping his team clean mosquitos from his paddock.

There’s no info on whether these insects are being regarded as a threat for the racers, or whether the Argentinian race organizers are planning to do something about it. Either way, I know at least one rider whose eyes will be hard to see during the third round of the championship, and he is the 2013 runner-up Jorge Lorenzo.

According to his own declarations, Lorenzo was distracted by a mosquito during the start of the last round, at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Indeed he can be seen getting rid of the tear-off lens on his visor just moments before jumping the start and actually losing the race right before it started.

Lorenzo was forced to make a penalty ride through the pit lane and fought very hard to climb back to the 10th position he occupied in the end. Hopefully, the Argentinian round will not be plagued by the presence of mosquitos. By the way, at the time of writing we have exactly 23 hours until the first official outing on the new track of the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit.

Currently we have Marc Marquez leading the world standing with 50 points, followed by Dani Pedrosa with 36, Valentino Rossi with 28. And the top five complete with Andrea Dovizioso and Aleix Espargaro, with 27 and 20 points, respectively.
