Brought to the market in 1998, Lexus IS’ main goal in late years was to surpass the segment-leading BMW 3 Series in terms of performance. And it seems that Toyota’s luxury brand finally did it with the 2014 IS350 F Sport.
In a three-way comparison staged by Car and Driver, the 2014 iteration of Lexus’ compact executive scored a better grand total than the BMW 335i M Sport and the Cadillac ATS 3.6, beating the German sedan by one point and the US-developed competitor by seven points.

According to our source, the Lexus IS350 F Sport won the comparison thanks to its superior driving experience, steering, handling and ride, as well as driver comfort, interior styling and overall fit and finish. “The IS manages to be both typically Lexus-civil and delightfully capable,” is Car and Driver’s conclusion, but you can go ahead and check out the comparison for yourselves.

The Lexus IS350 F Sport used by the magazine was powered by 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic, a combo which sends 310 HP and 277 lb-ft of torque to the ground. The BMW 335i M Sport came with a 3.0-liter inline-six powerplant (306 HP, 300 lb-ft torque), while Cadillac had the 3.6-liter V6 (325 HP, 275 lb-ft torque).
