With a medium amount of mechanical skills and proper indications, anyone can do a maintenance job on the brake system, sparing some money and not waiting for the service center to complete the job.
If your car’s warranty has expired, you are pretty much free to repair it yourself if you got the know how.
To perform a maintenance job on the braking system, you will have to change the worn out rotors, brake pads and even calipers. It might sound intimidating, especially because it’s the most important vehicle safety system, but if you do it right, everything should be fine.
So get your toolbox, a jack and a pair of rubber gloves and get to work by firstly loosen the wheel’s bolts and then jacking up the car to remove them and the wheel. Next, unscrew and remove the bolts from behind the brake caliper in order to take it out and remove the brake pads.
The rotor is the most easy one to replace, being held in place by two screws on its exterior side. After doing this, put the new brake pads in their socket, gently compress the caliper piston in order to accommodate the new pads and mount it back.
Do this for the rest of the wheels, verify for any leaks in the system and you are ready to go. Also, try not to inhale the fine black dust from the worn out brake pads and before going on road, test your new brakes in a safe place.
