Aprilia's Superbike team is leading the 2013 WSBK series after the race in Monza, Italy, and has their two riders in the first two position of the provisional standings. Sylvain Guintoli leads the overall rankings with 137 points, while his team mate, Irishman Eugene Laverty is second with 124 points.
They're followed by Kawasaki's tom Sykes and the two BMW riders: Marco Melandri and Chaz Davies, with the latter fresh from some wind tunnel testing in Germany.
The first race in Monza on Sunday saw Melandri finishing first, followed in order by Sykes, Laverty, Guintoli and Davies, while the second one was won by Laverty, with Melandri in the second position, and Sykes, Guintoli and Fabrition filling up the top 5.
Race 2 was spiced up with Sykes running off the track in Turn 5and using the run off area, and Aprilia appealed to the Race Direction for an analysis of the timings and possibly a on position penalty for the Brit. So far the decision still has Sykes in the 3rd position, but we might see Aprilia going for the International Disciplinary Court and appealing again. We'll be watching this.
