Honda today announced that the new 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel engine will be available on the Civic hatchback in Britain in January 2013 from £19,400 for the base SE configuration, rising all the way up to £23,175 for the top-of-the-range EX.
The newcomer to the engine range is a much welcomed economical edition to the range that only offers large displacement units. In this application, the Civic will have 120 PS 4,000 rpm and 300Nm (221.3 lb-ft) at 2,000 rpm of torque at its disposal.
On the combined cycle, the Civic equipped with the six-speed manual gearbox and the 1.6 diesel will return 78.5mpg UK (3.6l/100km) and emit only 94 g/km, which makes it emissions tax exempt in the UK.
This new engine will also be available on the new CR-V SUV later in 2013.
