Fiat USA has sent the 500L out with a bang, as the minivan model is making its first appearance on US shores, ready to capitalize on the success of the 500 subcompact hatch and convertible.
This is the first time we’ve been able to show you the car on video, and we have to take note of the subtle differences. The 500L now has body-colored bumpers in its US configuration. It’s also spawned slightly different lights and an exhaust tip at the back.
The 500L is actually 26 inches longer and 6 inches wider than the 500, so you won’t have to cram inside if you’re a reasonably sized adult.
Making its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 500L minivan is based on the "small-wide" architecture. Power comes from a 1.4-liter turbocharged “MultiAir” four-cylinder engine, pushing out the same 160 horsepower as in the Abarth, but slightly more torque.
"Those who love the style and performance that only the Italians can create, can now enjoy space for five, functionality, practicality and value," says Tim Kuniskis, Head of FIAT Brand North America. "The Fiat 500L is the whole package, and it now brings its unique flavor to the American market."
