2012 VW Passat Alltrack Commercial: Pleasure Before Business

This is probably the first commercial we’ve seen this year that can blend the boring B-roll footage of a car simply driving without you noticing. “Pleasure before business.” is the motto by which Volkswagen wants to sell the brand new Passat Alltrack.
The Alltrack should really be just a big, boring bag of reasonableness. But somehow, we laughed out loud when we saw the sweater-wearing manly man drink tea with horse, do a headstand and at the end of it all adjust his tie before going to work.

The Alltrack is a jacked up version of the Passat estate, sitting 165mm off the ground, or 30mm higher than normal. It also has a new front and rear fascias, as well as with plastic wheel arch protection elements.

The range of engines includes two turbocharged, direct-injected petrols, a 1.8-liter TSI that delivers 160 hp and a 2.0-liter TSI that produces 210 hp, as well as two turbodiesels - actually, we are talking about the 140 and 170 hp versions of the 2.0 TDI powerplant.

The two most powerful units come with 4MOTION all-wheels-drive and a dual-clutch transmission as standard, while the 140 hp TDI version can be ordered with the 4MOTION AWD system.
