Most of the cars at SEMA this year were brand new, 2012 or 2013 model year vehicles fresh of the factory floor, sometimes so new that regular folks haven’t even driven them yet. But turn the clock back a decade or so, and SEMA was more about the retro era, the brands that are now dead, the rat rods, muscle cars and pre-war classics.
The latest Focus ST or Hyundai Veloster Turbo might be cool and all, but for a lot less money, you can get your hands dirty and build something really amazing in the process, something that will surely get the right kind of stares.
A company company called Factory Five Racing makes a DIY kit that you can turn into a brand new ‘33 Ford “Hot Rod”. The kit supposedly comes with everything you’ll need except the engine and drivetrain, which is where you’ll have to get creative.
This one was on display outside in the Las Vegas sun and was built by customizer Chuck Armstrong from Sedona, Arizona. It uses the Ford Racing 4.6-liter crate block and comes with custom yellow paint by Miller Customs and an interior by Leather Pros from Utah, who used dark red quilted leather.
