SEAT officially unveiled the “Ibiza Cupra Concept” at the China Auto 2012 in Beijing. This pocket rocket actually follows the lines of the production version that will follow later this year.
Many of SEAT’s fans have criticized this car for playing it safe. The 2012 facelift for the Ibiza is a decent change for the regular supermini, but the Cupra has lost its aggressive look.
People often criticize Renault for the Clio RS’ cheap interior, but this concept isn’t a whole lot better. It’s really horrible and basic in places, and considering this is a compact flagship they could have really gone to town. We think the old Ibiza was better in this aspect. Also, the Cupra is shown with a DSG, suggesting a manual is not available with this generation.
The concept is finished in Crono yellow paint, and bestowed with a set of 17-inch alloys, a full body kit, bi-xenon headlights with some LEDs at the bottom. The cabin offers two-tone leather with yellow accenting.
Powering the 2012 model is still 1.4-liter TSI with 180 PS and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. The power is sent to the road via a seven-speed DSG via an XDS electronically locking differential.
