2011 Volvo S60 Will Launch in Malaysia in March

Volvo Car Malaysia has confirmed that the all-new S60 will be launched sometime next month. The model designed to take on BMW’s 3-Series and the Mercedes Benz C-Klasse will arrive in the country as a fully-imported variant. Fortunately, local assembly in Malaysia and the subsequent lowering of prices will take place in the third quarter of 2011.

Two engine options will be available from the get-go, the T5 and T6. Costing MYR290,000 ($95,000), the Volvo S60 T5 is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 250 hp at 6000 rpm and 361 Nm between 1750–4000 rpm. Meanwhile, the S60 T6, which will set you back MYR350,000 ($115,000), comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine generating 304 hp at 6500 rpm and 440 Nm between 2100–4200 rpm.

The engine's power is delivered to the wheels via Volvo's second-generation six-speed automatic Geartronic transmission. New valves and lower friction mean faster gear changes than before. The T5 comes as standard with front-wheel drive, while the T6 is an all-wheel drive model.

Standard equipment on both models will include power driver seat with memory, power folding rear head restraints, front and rear sport seats, leather steering wheel with metal inlays, dual-zone air conditioning, infotainment and 8-speaker sound system, Bluetooth hands-free phone interface, T-Tec textile upholstery and 17-inch alloys.

Malaysian customers can expect the full package with Volvo’s latest safety technologies, including Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Roll Over Protection System (ROPS), City Safety and Collision Warning with Auto Brake (CWAB).
