2011 SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Details Announced

Earlier today, we told you that Mazda and Honda’s North American racing arms are introducing a new low-cost B-Spec racing series. It is now time to see what happens if we increase the budget a bit.

Well, if we stay in the same carmaker area, we could talk about Mazda’s 2011 SCCA Pro racing PLayboy MX-5 Cup. Yes, we chose this thanks to the name. The company recently announced the schedule for next year, as well as a new prize payment structure.

Here is the 2011 schedule for the series:

            Round Date Track With

1     March 4-6 Homestead Miami Speedway Grand Am
2     April 29-May 1 Road Atlanta   Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty
3/4  May 27-30 Lime Rock   Grand Am
5     June 17-18 Road America   SCCA June Sprints
6     July 9-10 Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Grand Am
7/8  September 2-5 Brainerd   SCCA PRO

The organizers are still discussing two additional races, so the total number of events could reach ten races on eight weekends.

As for the new prize payment structure, Mazda announced that it will offer increased amounts of money for positions fourth through 20th, with independent teams receiving a 25 percent bonus.

Building a race schedule is like assembling a jigsaw puzzle, while riding shotgun in an off-road race,” Jim Jordan, Alternative Marketing Manager, Mazda North American Operations said. “You are constantly reacting to input from the racers, time and paddock availability at tracks, and working to insure a sane travel schedule. With the demise of several other spec series in 2010, we welcome those who are looking for an affordable place to race, one that provides a clear path upwards.
