2011 Mercedes CLS Revealed [Updated]

The second generation of the Mercedes CLS is one of the most anticipated vehicles in the contemporary automotive landscape, with multiple waves of spyshots hitting the web. But now, the wait is over, as the undisguised version of the upcoming vehicle has been caught on camera, being spied by the AutoExpress magazine and SecretNewCars website during a photo shoot. The vehicle comes with a robot-like front fascia, featuring a large single bar radiator grille, an unusual headlight design, thin LED daytime running lights. The new angular stiling is continued on the side of the car, with the vehicle having large door mirrors, which use the same lighting theme (for the signals) as the headlights. The rear bumper of the second generation CLS uses an original layout, as it incorporates the third brake light and features an interesting horizontal ornament that links the car’s two large trapezoidal tailpipes. The vehicle’s rear lights use a flared design, also being generously-sized. The spied CLS was the 350CGI version, which will almost certainly feature the recently presented 3,499 cc V6 engine that develops 306 hp and 370 Nm of torque. Another powerplant expected to join the new CLS’ engine line-up is the fresh 4663 cc V8 unit, which offers 435 hp and 700 Nm of torque while offering a 22 percent fuel consumption cut, compared to its predecessor. The AMG version of the car is likely to be powered by the new 5.5 liter turbocharged engine developing between 544 and 571 hp. The second generation Mercedes CLS should make its world debut this fall, at the Paris Motor Show, although we expect Mercedes to release the official info and pictures for the car sooner than that. Update (07.06.2010): even though the car has not been officialy released, Lorinser has presented a tuning package for it.
