Spyshots: 2011 Mercedes CLS 63 AMG

After the end of the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, we must admit exciting information from the automotive industry (apart from the Opel-Magna months-long saga, that is) became really scarce. With just about everything there is presented at the event, the last month proved to be somewhat poor in terms of new appearances to the scene.

Until now that is, when the car paparazzi returned not just with a regular novelty, but with an exciting one: the next generation of the Mercedes CLS 63 AMG. Caught wearing heavy camo on the road, the new AMG goodie is getting its final tweaks prior to its 2010 release.

Of course, as far as performance goes, nothing is yet quite known. This however does not stop the rumor mill grinding some information about what the CLS might hide under its hood.

As there's no other base for comparison as good as the current generation, it is safe to assume the same arrangement will be used for the future
one. Whereas today's version of the CLS 63 AMG uses the engine fitted on the previous version of the E 63 AMG, the future one has a good change of receiving the 6.2l engine fitted on the 2010 E63 AMG.

The unit develops 525 hp and 465 lb.-ft. of torque on the E63 and is paired with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission, expected to find its way into the CLS as well.

Design wise, the CLS 63 AMG will borrow elements from the E-Klasse as well, but until photos with the car wearing less armor will be revealed, it's hard to see exactly what the eye-catching design cues will be.

The exact release date is not yet known, with some rumors hinting the car may meet its customers sometimes in 2011.
