Spyshots: 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG

We must admit these are some of the most gorgeous spyshots we've ever seen, although we're talking about a prototype that is only supposed to help the automaker test certain features of the car. But what we have here is the next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS AMG, a model that is likely to go on sale in select markets in 2011.

This is basically the first time we're seeing the CLS 63 AMG out for testing, as spy photographers around the world only caught the normal CLS several times. However, as you can see for yourselves in the adjacent photos, the car's mirror indicators will feature the same design as the E-Klasse sedan. Furthermore, there are four oval tailpipes which perfectly fit the AMG designation.

As for the engine lineup, you should naturally expect a high-performance unit, with the future engine likely to come with a slight power increase over the current output. A 6.2-liter V8 configuration developing 386kW (525hp) is a very likely scenario, but official specifications are yet to be disclosed.

Besides the aforementioned engine, AMG will most likely retain the SpeedShift MCT 7-speed transmission. Furthermore, 18-inch wheels will probably make it to the production model as standard, while a 19-inch version is likely to be offered as an option.

As we said, Mercedes will begin sales of the CLS 63 AMG in 2011, with the car to compete with multiple models, including the Porsche Panamera Turbo and the Aston Martin Rapide. Furthermore, Audi's A7 will also join the battle.
