Chrysler Group LLC today unveiled the 2011 Jeep Compass, a compact 4x4 SUV capable of offering up to 29 mpg. The 2011 Jeep Compass is available in three trim-levels including Compass, Latitude and Limited, all of them being offered with front-wheel drive - the Freedom Drive I full-time, active 4x4 system or the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package full-time, active 4x4 system with low-range capability.

“With the new 2011 Jeep Compass, we’ve applied the premium design cues of our award-winning new Grand Cherokee,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO of the Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC.

The basic engine on offer is the 2.0-liter petrol, making 158-hp and 141 lb-ft of torque. Mated to Chrysler’s new CVT2 transmission, the 2011 Compass with a 2.0L delivers a fuel-economy of 23 mpg (10.22 liters/100 km) in the city and 29 mpg (8.1 liters/100 km) on the highway. Also available on all models is a 2.4-liter World Engine that makes 172-hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. It comes with Variable Valve Timing on both intake and exhaust camshafts.

The five-speed box comes as standard on the entry-level model, while a CVT is also available on the base Compass and is standard on Latitude and Limited trim levels.

“Combined with new interior appointments, and refinements to the suspension and steering systems, Jeep Compass provides consumers the ultimate combination of styling, capability, fuel economy, efficiency, safety and value in the important compact-SUV segment,” Manley also stated in the press release announcing the model.

The new Jeep Compass will go on sale later this month, and will be manufactured at the Belvidere Assembly Plant. The company has not released any pricing information yet.
