2010 Volkswagen Polo Out for Grabs

After a couple of months of some serious waiting, German manufacturer Volkswagen will debut tomorrow, on the German market, its latest generation Polo. Volkswagen says it has already received some 24,000 orders for the 12,150 euro car (starting price).

"The new Polo is the right car at the right time, and it offers attractive solutions for customers in a difficult time for the automotive industry. In the Polo, the art of German engineering melds with state-of-the-art technology. It is not only the most economical and environmentally friendly Polo of all times, but the safest as well with features such as standard ESP," Christian Klingler, Volkswagen member of the board said.

Volkswagen will offer no less than seven different engines to go with the car. The model comes in four gasoline and three diesel powerplant versions, with five of them being new to the Polo range.

The engine lineup adds three turbo diesel direct injection powerplants, as Polo sees its first use of common rail technology. Volkswagen's 1.6 TDI power unit, when combined with the BlueMotion package, averages a fuel consumption rate of 3.8l every one hundred kilometers and releases only 96g of CO2/km into the atmosphere. This makes it the most fuel efficient and lowest emitting five-seater diesel in the world.

"Clearly, the Polo will redefine the benchmarks in its class, especially when it comes to preserving natural resources," Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the board added.

The rest of the Europeans, provided they do not rush the German border, have a bit more waiting to do. The rest of Europe will witness the new Polo first hand starting next month. A revised version is expected in the US starting 2011.
