2010 Buick Lacrosse to Get Ecotec 2.4l Engine

Clearly determined to change the bad image it now has in the automotive industry, American manufacturer GM is placing most of its faith in the Buick brand. After releasing the new advertising for the brand, GM has now announced the Lacrosse will get the new direct injected Ecotec 2.4l four-cylinder engine, which will become the third units offered with the 2010 Lacrosse.

The Ecotec 2.4l four-cylinder develops 182 horsepower and 172 lb.-ft. of torque. Mated to the six-speed automatic transmission, the engine provides fuel economy of 30 mpg highway (7.8l/100 km/) and 20 mpg city (11.7l/100 km). In addition, the direct injection fuel system allows a higher compression ratio to increase efficiency and horsepower, allowing cold start emissions to be reduced by up to 25 percent.

Buick LaCrosse customers will have the fuel-efficient option of the Ecotec 2.4l direct injection engine, a four-cylinder that is not available by key competitors, such as the Lincoln MKZ and Acura TL,” Susan Docherty, Buick-Pontiac-GMC vice president said when announcing the new engine.

The 2.4l Ecotec engine will join the Lacrosse range later this summer. It will become the standard engine on the Lacrosse CX and GM expects about 25 percent of customers will opt for the new version. Additionally, GM offers, as we said, two other engines for the Lacrosse: 3.0l and 3.6l V-6 powerplants.

Features such as a rear-seat entertainment system and remote starting are other technologies that are segment exclusives, contributing to LaCrosse’s balanced package of design, performance and intelligent technology,” Docherty added.
