Mazda Motors has just announced a massive recall affecting Mazda6 models built for the US market for the 2009 to 2013 model yaers.
The affected cars all have a problem with their door latches which could result in the doors opening while you're on the move. The problem lies with defective door latches, specifically the screws that hold them in place. These are defective and could become loose over time, resulting in improper closing of the side doors.
Of course, that won't happen if you're going at speed in a straight line, but it is potentially dangerous and a liability to the integrity of the car as well.
An investigation was opened by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in May 2013 after several reports filed by Mazda6 owners.
The recall affects cars built before Augist 24, 2012. Mazda dealers will examine the latches on 161,400 cars and apply a hread-locking adhesive to the door screws thread-locking adhesive to the door screws.
